Need to figure out the dimensions of your USPS box? We’ve got you covered. We’ve published the actual as well as listed outer dimensions of all of the free USPS boxes below, along with links to where you can order them on the USPS website. Heads up: all of these boxes are free to order, and USPS will deliver them right to your front door!
What Do You Mean by “Actual” and “Listed” Dimensions?
The actual dimensions are the measurements that we physically took of each of these boxes. In our experience, we’ve found that the dimensions USPS lists on some of these boxes are slightly different than how they actually measure up. Hence, actual vs. listed dimensions. When you use shipping software to buy postage, you’ll likely need to enter the dimensions of your USPS boxes, if it’s not marked with a specific service such as Flat Rate or Regional Rate. In this case, we suggest entering the actual dimensions of the box, and not the listed dimensions.

Why Decimals and Not Fractions?
You may have noticed that we listed out all of these dimensions in decimals instead of fractions. We did this because most online shipping software companies don’t recognize fractions when you enter in your box’s dimensions. You’ll most always have to enter your outer dimensions using decimal points no matter which shipping software you use, so we figured listing them out this way would make things easier!

This is kind of useless without the inner dimensions.
As in the space actually available for the stuff you’re packing.
Elizabeth
The inner dimensions (ID) are listed on the box, just above the outer dimensions (OD),

What would the price be for flat rate 12 1/2 x 12 x 14 3/4 and 11 x 11 x 14 3/4?

I tried the boxgiver.com and it says site cannot be reached, perhaps they are no longer.

For Box 7 I’m not getting a full 12.25 anywhere. On top where the box can get pushed in a little bit, I only get 12.0625 x 12.0. On one side in the center of the box height, measuring between two strong corners, I can get about 12.1875, and then 12.125 on the opposite face where the side flap leaves less thickness. I measured the bottom at 12 x 11.9375. The height can be read at 8.5 from flap to flap if you don’t push them down too hard. Otherwise it seems to vary from 8.25 to 8.375 along the hinges and corners.

Question abt international shipping to Germany. I purchased a box at my PO. (20X20X20). Is the lenght X girth 2(20+20) = 80 + 20+100?
So is the girth 100? Can I ship this size box to Germany? (If not, what is limit?)
Next question: What is the weight limit for shipping to Germany?

Why are all your boxes so shallow? Tallest is 6 inches

Which one’s the biggest?

Dear Mr. Sands, Thank you for your site. We are a new small business and not young so not tech savvy. Your site has been very helpful. I do not understand the free usps boxes. Can we really get free boxes and ship them via Pirate?
Respectfully,
Brenda

Hi Brenda, you can get free USPS boxes and use them with anything shipping software you like! You can order them for free on the USPS website, and USPS will deliver them right to your door. You should note that they’re a bit backed up right now, but if you order them, they’ll get there eventually! You can also walk into your local Post Office and grab some for free there.
