Minneapolis and Saint Paul Post Offices Temporarily Closed
Following George Floyd’s death earlier in the week, protests have sprung up across the country. Riots and protests in Minneapolis and Saint Paul are still occurring, resulting in widespread violence, looting and fires. In response, the US Postal Service announced Thursday that it will close select Post Offices in Minneapolis and Saint Paul. USPS has chosen to close these Post Offices and temporarily suspend service out of caution for their workers, as well as the safety of local communities.
Which Post Offices in Minneapolis and Saint Paul Are Closed?
According to USPS, the following Post Office locations have suspended both mail delivery and retail window services:
- Powderhorn
- Minnehaha
- Lake Street
Local Postmaster William Jones spoke out on the Postal Service’s decision to temporarily suspend service in the area:
“The safety of our employees providing this essential service is our highest priority,” Jones said. “Our Postal Inspection Service will review the situation of current events daily and determine whether or not our employees are safe to deliver to these communities.”
If I Live in The Area, Can I Still Buy Labels Online and Schedule Pickups?
If you live in the Saint Paul or Minneapolis area and these Post Office closures affect you, you can still use online shipping software to buy discounted USPS labels. You may need to wait a few days to schedule the pickups for your packages, until these three Post Offices have resumed collection services. However, there’s nothing stopping you from buying labels and taking your packages to other open Post Offices!
