People may wonder whether USPS delivers on Memorial Day, the national holiday on the last Monday of May which honors the men and women who sacrificed their lives while serving in the U.S. military. Since Memorial Day is one of 10 federal holidays in the United States, USPS does not deliver any mail or packages on that day, and Post Offices are closed.
USPS Does Not Deliver Mail or Packages on Memorial Day
As we said in the introduction, USPS does not deliver mail or packages on Memorial Day, since it is a federal holiday. While Post Offices are closed, the blue USPS collection boxes are still open on the day. You can drop off mail and packages inside of them, but USPS won’t collect anything until the following day (Tuesday).

What About Other Carriers Like UPS & FedEx?
Sometimes private carriers such as UPS and FedEx are open for businesses on certain holidays when the Postal Service isn’t. For instance, both FedEx and UPS operate on Presidents’ Day, while USPS doesn’t. FedEx and UPS also operate on Juneteenth, Indigenous Peoples Day, and Veterans Day, which are three other holidays when USPS closes Post Offices and doesn’t deliver.
That said, both FedEx and UPS observe Memorial Day alongside USPS. Like the Postal Service, neither FedEx nor UPS makes deliveries in the U.S. that day. FedEx Offices and UPS Store locations remain closed, as well.
