Salvatore “Sal” Vacca is the United States Postal Service’s Vice President of Retail and Delivery Operations for the Atlantic Area. He assumed this role in August 2020 after beginning his career as a letter carrier in 1985.
Duties and Responsibilities
As Vice President of Retail and Delivery Operations, Sal Vacca is responsible for overseeing daily operations for the entire Atlantic Area with a direct focus on the customer experience. As one of the most densely populated of the USPS regions, this is no small task. 19 separate districts make up the Atlantic Area, and it includes a total workforce of over 121,000 employees. Moreover, the Atlantic Area includes more than 36 million delivery points (aka places where USPS delivers) and 8,600 Post Offices. Each year, this particular region generates over $3 billion in total retail revenue.

Sal Vacca’s Background
After beginning his postal career as a letter carrier in 1985 in Newark, New Jersey, Sal Vacca has held a variety of roles within the USPS organization. Prior to assuming his current role, he served as acting Area Vice President for the Great Lakes Area. He also previously served as Postmaster in Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, Florida, and was detailed as officer-in-charge in Miami, Florida. Vacca has also held a variety of management positions within USPS, listed below:
- Officer-in-charge in Atlanta, Georgia
- District Manager of the Atlanta District
- Manager of Operations Support for the Capital Metro Area
- District Manager Major for the Capital District
Outside of working for USPS, Vacca attended Duke University’s School of Business in North Carolina in 2012. He also graduated from the Postal Service’s Advanced Leadership Program, and completed Executive Foundations as well as Executive Leadership training.
