Timothy Costello is the new Southern Area Retail and Delivery Operations Vice President for the US Postal Service. He assumed this role in October 2020, after previously serving as the Acting Vice President of Sales.
Duties and Responsibilities
As the new Southern Area Retail and Delivery Operations Vice President, Costello succeeded Shaun Mossman. He now reports to David Williams, USPS current Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President. In his new role, Costello will oversee daily postal operations such as mail processing, distribution, customer service, and more. He will also manage an annual budget of over $10.5 billion. The Southern Area encompasses over 640,000 square miles, and processes more than 226 million pieces of mail a day. The states it includes are Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Texas, as well as parts of South Carolina and Georgia. The Southern Area generates a ton of cash for the Postal Service. In fact, it brought in over $10.9 billion in revenue in fiscal year 2018 alone!
Timothy Costello’s Background
Costello graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in Business Administration and Management. He has also earned Six Sigma Green Belt Certification from Villanova University, and is USPS Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certified. Prior to assuming his current role, Costello served as USPS’ Major Metro District Manager of the South Florida District. Costello has also served in a variety of other leadership positions in the Postal Service, such as District Manager of the Alabama and Dallas districts, and Area Manager of Delivery Programs Support for the Eastern Area.
